Environmental Issue Instruction
Fourth Grade•We go to the Natural History Museum and learn about how and why Earth has changed over time. We learn about different plants and animals as well.
• We learn about how Earth’s landscape has changed over time. We look at differences in climate, land features, and living things. •We participate in the Days of Taste, an in-house presentation and field trip to a local farm. We taste different herbs and made a salad from local produce. When we went to Gorman Farm, we learned how buying local produce is good for us and for the environment. •We learn about how weathering and erosion affect the environment. We learn about how humans can slow these harmful processes down. •We go to the National Zoo and learn about animals’ habitats and environments. •We learn about how natural disasters affect the environment. •We study Maryland’s native plants and animals that have been impacted by environmental change. We also research how humans can support the survival of that animal or plant. |
Fifth Grade
• We research animals that live in the Chesapeake Bay and the impact of the issues of the Bay on these animals.
• We study the water cycle and the environment's effect on the state of our unchanging supply of water. •We study the Chesapeake Bay ecosystem and learn about renewable and non renewable resources. • We study human impact on our Chesapeake Bay watershed. •We study the 4 systems of the Earth, geosphere, hydrosphere, atmosphere, and biosphere to understand how human actions can impact the Earth. |
