Water Conservation/Pollution Prevention

 theyAt Swansfield Elementary...
• On average twice a month 20 students pick up litter on school grounds to prevent the trash from going down storm drains into the Chesapeake Bay.
• On our newly renovated school grounds, Swansfield has a bioretention area.  This area has grasses, native shrubs, and wildflowers that do not require watering. They slow down storm water and help with the runoff.  For their next project the Green Beanz are going to design a scavenger hunt for students to identify the different plants in the bioretention area.
